We officially started back with home ed this week after an 8 week break. I say 'officially'...I didn't actually make it obviously to the boys, just started slipping in more educational activities into their days. I have to say, it has been one of the best weeks we've ever had!

I realise as I write this, that this is the first ever start of a new school year where both my boys are fully deregistered. It's a strange feeling, but the relief is immense.

So this week we have:

•Practised counting up and down in multiples of ten whilst playing Simon Says

•Planned and designed craft projects

•Been shopping for our craft resources

•Played board games

•Been out exploring in our new campervan

•Watched 'Odd Animals' on YouTube (a really good educational channel - highly recommend)

•Researched bones and built a model skeleton

•Typed a short story on Widgit

•Created music on Chrome music lab

•Engaged in physical play on our sensory equipmeInt

•Re-established a routine of twice daily tooth brushing, regular baths, and getting dressed when we are going out

⏫ These are this week's BIG wins!⏫

And not once have I said "let's do our learning now"...it has been fluid and flexible and wholly child led. This list may not seem like a lot to the 'typical' school attending family, but to us it marks the beginning of finding enjoyment in learning again. And more so - my children starting to re engage with the outside world.

Moderation is key, however, as both boys has struggled with anxiety this week. We had to cancel a visit from the carer, and shorten a visit from Grandad. So as positive as this week has been, I see the effort it takes my boys just to function.

All that being said, I am taking this as a positive, and I hope I can maintain this approach throughout the school year. I am starting to get excited about this home ed stuff now 😀
