Still get that Friday feeling...

I have absolutely no idea why I feel a sense of elation that it's Friday! I mean, technically, every day is the same here. But Fridays still tend to be a winddown day, and today we have done absolutely nothing of educational value*

*Note to the education police - don't worry, we'll be back on it tomorrow!

The truth is, some days it just doesn't work. Don't get me wrong, I was out there earlier today chalking maths challenges on the pavement (we only partake if the learning doesn't "look" like learning), so it wasn't for lack of trying, but the boys were tired and non-complaint which left me with two choices: 1. Force engagement (something I have learnt the hard way is never effective) or 2. Attune to my children and recognise today is not the day.

So I opted for option two, with no guilt. It took me a while to get here...when you start home educating you can feel very judged by everyone - professionals, family, society -in other words, anyone and everyone who does not know your child as well as you do. But I am trying to teach my children to prioritise their mental health - to recognise when they have had enough and take a break before they burn out. Something I certainly was never taught at school! So they relaxed on their computers, whilst I wrote my blog. And tomorrow we start again.

Today's small wins:

  • Boys caught up on rest

  • Boys are regulated - no arguments or meltdowns

  • Drank a hot cup of tea
