I am posting the blog a little late today, as we have just returned from an evening trip to the fun fair. This is actually the second time we have been to the fair this summer (and second time we have all left the house). The fair is a big motivator for both boys, although it isn't without it's triggers.

In order to keep Twin 2 in a regulated-enough state to manage, we take the wagon he can 'hide' in, and his ear defenders. I like the environment of the fair: The people working there seem to 'get' children, and 'get' SEN. The boys could run around freely, and not be judged. Accommodations and kindness was given when they didn't win the prize they wanted. I am grateful, as I am every year, for this community visiting our town and the kindness they show us.

But don't think for one minute that this lovely family day out just 'happened'...the ASD in twin 2 means he need predictability and prewarning...the PDA in him needs the opposite! So it is a careful consideration of a) judging regulation on the day (is this the right day to suggest a trip out?); assessing twin 1's amenability (will he want to go? Has he got the energy to manage his brother today?); and gentle yet firm suggestion (let's go to the fair later...yeah you'll come too). This doesn't always work. Sometimes I misjudge one or more of the above factors. Today, though, it did. So I'm feeling good!

I forgot to do my 'small wins' last week, so I'll add a few extra to this post 😊

This weeks small wins:

  • We all left the house!

  • Boys got some fresh air

  • I got some fresh air!

  • We got out in the community

  • Twin 1 fell asleep before 2am last night (it's been 5am for the past week 😬)

  • We completed daily routines today: Getting dressed, brushing teeth
